Expo a Huge Success!

Just over a week ago Vital Greens exhibited at the Natural & Organic Expo in London's Olympia. The expo was a huge success and we have received hundreds of enquiries about our products and services as a result. Shane Sullivan and Stephen Sprada (founders and formulators of Vital Greens) flew in from Australia to attend and were kept busy answering product questions all day. With both Vital Greens and Phyto Protein on offer over the expo for free tastings, one overwhelming response to our products was "how they can be so good for me when they taste so good!!". We often ask ourselves the same question. Thank you Shane and Stephen for perfecting the taste for so long so that we can all get our daily fix of vitamins, nutrients and enzymes and more in such a great tasting, easy to take formula!

Pricing and Name Change

To all our loyal customers,

Due to increased costs in sourcing some of our highest quality ingredients, a couple of our products have had a very slight price change. The 100gm and 300gm Vital Greens remain the same. Our 1KG is currently out of stock due to a huge demand, but our 600gm Vital Greens is available for £89.75. This is a 2 month supply and equates to only £1.50 a day to get all your vitamins, nutrients, enzymes and essential amino acids in one quick fix!

Our Phyto Protein has been renamed VITAL PROTEIN but is the same, highest vegetable protein source available on the market. Organic Vanilla and Natural Chocolate Flavours retail at £26.95 for 500gms and the Original/Natural Vital Protein is £25.78 for 500gm.

Pet Praise for Vital Protein

The following letter was sent to Stephen Sprada, one of the founders of Vital Greens in Sydney, Australia…

Dear Stephen,

Thank you for your time on the phone earlier this week.

Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency ("EPI") is a potentially fatal disease for dogs. In December 2008, our 4 year old cocker spaniel, Daisy developed "EPI" and within 4 weeks, she dropped almost a third her body weight. In addition to the rapid weight loss, she developed severe diarrhea and had a ravenous appetite. Dogs will "stave to death" without proper care.

Our Vet (for more than 20 years) conducted the necessary blood tests and subscribed an enzyme complex called Enzyplex and suggested we tried diet modifications and feed a low fat diet free of grains and sugars.

The next 6 months were very difficult and we experimented with literally dozens of different combinations of wet and dry foods, however Daisy continued to lose weight. We even took her to Sydney to get an expert opinion but nothing seemed to help.

We decided to introduce a raw diet of beef and chicken and blend it together with the Enzyplex just to basically keep her alive but she wasn't a happy dog and lacked the "cocker character" we have had in our home for the past 30 years. We have had 8 spaniels over this time and know the breed very well.

Then about 6 weeks ago we discovered Pea Protein Isolate in a local health food store and started Daisy on a very small dose to see if she could "tolerate" it as we had tried (whey based) products in the past without any success. Whey products actually made her worse.

Daisy's turn around in the past 6 weeks has been very encouraging.

Her stools are back to "normal", she has found a new level of energy we have never seen before and she has gained about a third of a kilo in weight. She is calmer, and far less anxious about getting the next meal. And almost back to a normal cocker nature. She now has 3 scoops of Pea Protein Isolate a day blended with her food and the enzyme supplement. It's still a long way back but at least we feel she in heading in the right direction. Time will tell.

Apologies for being so long winded about our dog but we thought you should know her reaction to your product.

You may wish to find out more about EPI on the following sites:

www.globalspan.net/epi
www.epi4dogs.com/diet

Regards,
John L

Acid / Alkaline Balance – A Beginner's Guide

Why
getting your acid/alkaline balance right is so
important for overall physical health

With the
explosion of gene research in recent years, one thing has become evident: how
long it takes for genes to adapt to changed environments. Our huntergatherer
ancestors consumed a diet very different to what is typical in the Western
world today. Their diet was based on minimally processed plant and animal
foods. And despite the advent of agriculture approximately 10,000 years ago,
the evidence clearly shows that our genes are still battling to adapt to these
dietary changes.

The food
technology evolution has accelerated rapidly in the last century, going hand in
hand with increased rates of so-called 'lifestyle diseases' of the heart,
circulation, arthritis and cancer.

The Western acid-forming diet

After the
appearance of stone tools and the invention of automated rolling and sifting
devices, grains became a diet staple. When livestock became domesticated, milk,
cheese and other dairy products were introduced. Salt consumption rose when the
technology to mine, process and transport it became available. Meat consumption
increased with animal husbandry and new technology that allowed grains to be
consumed efficiently, enabling cattle to fatten up quickly. Sugar consumption
has also risen rapidly since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.

Almost all
foods we eat (after being digested, absorbed, and metabolised) release either
an acid or an alkaline base (bicarbonate) into the blood. Fresh fruit,
vegetables, roots, tubers, nuts and legumes release an alkaline base. Grains,
fish, meat, poultry, shellfish, cheese, milk and salt produce an acid base. The
introduction and dramatic rise in our consumption of processed foods, and the
reduction in the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables means the typical
Western diet has become more acid-producing.

The dangers of too much acid

Human blood
is slightly alkaline, with a normal pH (potential of hydrogen) level of between
7.35 and 7.45. The theory behind adopting a more alkaline diet is so that blood
reflects this pH level, as it did in the past, and be slightly alkaline. A diet
high in acid-producing foods is thought to disrupt the acid/alkaline balance
and the consequences of a prolonged imbalance forces the body to neutralise the
acidity (which has a burning effect) by continually robbing the body's stores
of alkaline minerals - mainly calcium and magnesium, but also potassium and
sodium - as it tries to restore equilibrium.

According
to some natural health practitioners, an overly acid-producing diet is the
cause of a number of chronic diseases. Some practitioners recommend an alkaline
diet if a person has the following symptoms and other illnesses have been ruled
out:

Lack of
energy

Excessive
mucus production

Nasal
congestion

Frequent
colds and flu

Anxiety,
nervousness and irritability

Ovarian
cysts, polycystic ovaries and benign breast cysts

Headache

Even mild
acidosis can lead to more complex health
problems over a period of time, such as:

Cardiovascular
damage

Weight gain
and obesity

Bladder and
kidney conditions, including kidney stones

Osteoporosis
(weak, brittle bones, hip fractures, bone spurs)

Chronic
fatigue

Yeast/fungal
overgrowths

Joint pain,
aching muscles and lactic acid build-up

Scientific evidence

Although
conventional medicine now accepts that increasing consumption of fruit and
vegetables and reducing
intakes of meat, salt and refined grains is beneficial to health, many
conventional doctors do not believe that an acid-producing diet is the
foundation of chronic illness. Large, well-designed clinical trials on the
effectiveness of the alkaline diet for general health are lacking, however,
recent genetic research has detailed the impact of constant acidity from modern
diets. There is also evidence now to suggest that alkaline diets may help
prevent the formation of calcium kidney stones, osteoporosis and age-related
muscle wasting.

Achieving a balance

An
increased awareness of how acid or alkaline your diet is will lead to a much
healthier daily existence. Importantly, the emphasis is on achieving a balance
- a diet with excess alkalinity has its own issues, including digestive
problems and inadequate assimilation of nutrients. It's important to note we
are talking about the pH of the body's fluids and tissues, not the pH of the
stomach, which has to be acidic so food can be properly digested.

There are
varying opinions on what the ideal acid/alkaline ratio should be, but it should
fall somewhere between 6.5 and 7.5 on the pH scale. This scale is a measure of
acidity or alkalinity of a solution. It is measured on a scale of 0 to 14 - the
lower the pH, the more acidic the solution is. The higher the pH, the more
alkaline the solution is. A solution that is neutral (neither acid nor
alkaline) is 7.

Testing pH levels

To
determine the state of your own pH levels, test either your saliva or urine at
home with pH test strips (these can be purchased from health shops). If
your urinary pH fl uctuates between 6.0 and 6.5 in the morning and between 6.5
and 7.0 in the evening, your body is functioning within a healthy range. The
healthy range for saliva stays between 6.5 and 7.5 all day. The best time to
test is about an hour before meals and two hours after a meal. You can test
your pH two days a week until you get an improved result.

CamExpo 2009 a Great Success for Vital Greens!

Vital Greens UK was thrilled with the overwhelming response we received at the CamExpo 2009, held at Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London on 24 and 25 October. Our colourful stand was buzzing with Vital Greens staff who flew here especially to attend the event from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Ireland and Norway. This buzz must have been infectious as we were kept very busy on both days talking about and selling Vital Greens - there were often up to 15 people at a time trying to squeeze into our exhibition stand!

CamExpo was aimed at practitioners and hundreds of industry
specialists showed a keen interest in our products. After tasting the free
samples of both Vital Greens and Phyto Protein, many people commented on how
much they enjoyed the flavour of our products compared to other greens and
protein products they had tried at the show. They were able to experience for
themselves the Vital Greens point of difference and rewarded us by voting both
Vital Greens and Phyto Protein (chocolate flavour) in the top six of the New
Product Showcase - an award that encompassed the entire show!

We were so excited after the event that we have already
booked a bigger stand for CamExpo 2010. So if you missed out on seeing us this
time, make sure you come along next year! And if October 2010 seems too long to
wait, then come and see us at the Natural and Organic Products Europe expo at
Kensington Olympia in April. We will update you with more information on both
of these events as they draw near.

Two new ingredients for 'Vital Greens'

We happy to announce that from the August, 2008 batch of ‘Vital Greens’ we will be adding two more cutting edge nutrients to evolve ‘Vital Greens’ even further into the most effective ‘one stop shop’ nutritional supplement in the world. They are Inulin (or pre-biotics) and a high antioxidant cacao extract.

One added bonus is they even help the improve taste of the formula! Recent French research has confirmed the combination of Pre-biotics and Probiotics enhances both ingredients beneficial actions and increases the level of antioxidant activity in the formula as a whole.

We have gone to the source and extracted and concentrated the bitter Cocoa plant to maximize the antioxidant benefits it brings to the many other antioxidants in ‘Vital Greens’.
